Personal Insurance Tips & Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Should I Bundle My Insurance Policies?

A: While bundling policies with the same insurance company isn’t always cheaper than mixing and matching, it is more often than not. In addition to cost savings, there are often additional benefits to bundling. One example is a common loss deductible that many insurance companies offer. This means if your home and cars are both damaged from the same storm, for instance, you’d only pay one deductible for the entire loss, as opposed to separate deductibles for each piece of property.

Q: Why Would I Pay More For Higher Liability Limits?

A: Your liability limits are the total amount of money your insurance company will cover you for when you’re liable for damages to another person or their property. While $50,000 sounds like a lot of money, it doesn’t always go far if you’re involved in a serious accident. Just think how much new cars can cost today! For that reason, we recommend that most of our clients should have a minimum of $100,000 in coverage and preferably $250,000 or more. You may be surprised how affordable it is to increase your limits.

Q: Can I Cancel My Policy Before the Expiration Date?

A: You can cancel your insurance policy at any time and receive a pro-rated refund for the unused days. Occasionally, a policy may have a minimum earned premium. Earned premiums are rare with personal lines policies but it’s best to double check.

Q: Does It Cost More to Have an Agent?

A: More often than not, we save our clients money. Regardless of cost, a local agent provides additional value in that you have a local expert on your side when determining coverage, making policy changes, or experiencing a claim.
